In response to Dr. Halavis’s comments to “We Live in a Sick World,” child molestation and rape is something I feel very passionate about. I don’t see why we need to make excuses for predators who commit these horrible crimes. An article written by Diana Scully and Joseph Marolla titled “Convicted Rapists’ Vocabulary of Motive: Excuses and Justifications,” contains evidence to support my claims. The article is primarily about excuses incarcerated rapists use to justify their actions. How can you justify raping someone? People that commit these crimes are not right in the head. There is no cure for someone with AIDS and I believe there is no cure for a rapist.

According to the article, “irresistible impulse and disease of the mind were introduced as the causes of the rape.” These people do have an illness which can be described as an “idiosyncratic symptom of a disordered personality.” Other articles have been written supporting the claim ex-rapists can demonstrate improvement with treatment, but for how long? How many repeat sex offenders do we have in this country?

I was unable to locate an exact number of how many sex offenders return to the community and recidivism (re-offend). According to research done in
Washington those rapist who received treatment still went back into communities and committed rapes at a lower rate than those who did not receive treatment, but none the less still committed rapes. Research demonstrated, “Sex offense recidivism rates within a seven-year period were: 11 percent for those who received SSOSA, 14 percent for those statutorily eligible but who did not receive SSOSA, and 31 percent for those not eligible for SSOSA” (Washington State Sex Offenders: Overview of Recidivism Studies, February 1995).

This evidence does support Dr. Halavis’s claim that medical help may help molesters and rapists. However, 11 percent of rapists who received help and jail time still continued to commit the same crimes and these are just the people who have been caught. There are definitely repeat offenders who have not been arrested yet and this was only the first seven years they have been released. If only 11 percent of the people released will continue to commit sexual crimes this is still too high of a number to take a chance. No one deserves to be rapped. Keep them behind bars where they belong.

We Live In a Sick World

Anyone who enjoys having sex with children is sick in the head. Child pornography is a major issue in the U.S. today because if there is child porn on the Internet, this means children are being molested and raped. No child volunteers to film a porn video they are forced to participate by sexual predators, who quite often are the child's relatives.

There have been programs established to help eliminate child porn such as the "Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection." The goal of this association is to shut down child porn sites by reporting suspected sites to the FBI and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This web site allows for members of the general public to report suspected sites, and the ASACP will follow up with an investigation and report the findings to the proper authorities. The web site allows people to help stop child porn and remain anonymous at the same time.

As voters we all need to push for stronger laws against child predators. Anyone molesting children is beyond help, they need to be put in prison for life or put to death. If they are released back in to society after a period of time they will commit the same crime again. Once a sex offender always a sex offender. Don't let them out ever!

No One Who is Completely Straight Does Gay Porn

Over recent years there has been a rise in the acceptance of homosexuality; which is fine with me, if a guy is gay, great more girls for me and if a girl is gay great, more fantasies for me. There have been several questions posted recently on the blog aggregator relating to gay porn. One major question being, should it matter what the stars sexual orientation is? Apparently is does matter, according to the lecture viewers enjoy seeing a straight person having sex with a gay person. What relevance does this have to the video, I’m not sure.

One thing I am sure of though is that someone who is 100% straight does not have gay sex no matter how good the money is. Some of the gay male porn actors claimed to be straight and doing the videos simply because the money was better. This may hold some truth, one of the actors was even married and his wife was on the set watching him perform. The guys claim it’s all about the money, and you get hard just thinking about the cash. I believe there is more to it than that however; most of the men are probably bisexual. They may lead a perfectly normal strait life and this is a way for them to express their true feelings and desires without being labeled as gay to their families, friends and co-workers. There is nothing wrong with this at all, but no matter how much money was on the line I could not bring myself to have sex with another man. For the right amount of money I would gladly have sex with a 60 year old fat woman, but never a man. These guys are not as strait as they would like everyone to believe.

I decided to write about something a little different this week, nudity. Nudity has not been directly related to the class so far, but in some peoples minds nudity is considered pornography or at the very least erotic. Nudity has been a part of life since Adam and Eve. The Olympic Games in Greece were performed in the nude. “The Cult of the Nude,” has been said to have arrived in the U.S. in the early 1900’s along with the arrival of German immigrants. Today there are many nudist colonies located all over the U.S. Many nudists prefer to be called naturalist, they think it’s the natural way to live in which god intended.

Nudists have faced many stumbling blocks on their way to acceptance. One of their main oppositions is the church. The Puritans believe that nudity equals sin. Today nudists are still struggling to gain acceptance from both the church and state. The president of Clothes Free International Corey Mangold states that his goals are to, “educate those who are unaware of the ideals and benefits of nude recreation.” What those benefits are I’m not sure, a good overall tan is the only one that jumps to mind. I visited several nude colonies web sites and their camps looked like pretty nice places. The only downfall was the fact that everyone shown naked was not someone you would want to see naked. I also feel that it’s inappropriate for adults and children not related to walk around naked together. I’m not saying nudists are sexual predators, but the potential for an ugly situation is there. Whatever works for you.

prostitute equals pain, porn star equal prestige

The big question in lecture number 12 is, are prostitution and pornography the same thing? No, they are not. Yes both porn stars and prostitutes are being paid to perform sexual acts, but not in the same context. Porn stars do not have sex on a daily basis. Some may film sexual acts once or twice a week, others only a few times a year if they are in that high of a demand. Prominent porn stars also choose who they want to have sex with. In porn films the actors are usually (but not always) of similar age and attractiveness and probably don’t mind having sex with each other for the money. Their job is also a safe one for the most part. There have been outbreaks of HIV spread throughout the porn industry, but it is uncommon. Stars are tested on a regular basis and film their videos in a clean safe location. Porn stars choose to be there on the set, they like their career choice and it pays well.

Prostitutes on the other hand don’t choose their lifestyle for the most part. They have been forced into their line of work either through poverty, the need to support children, drug addiction or family. Unlike porn stars they have no choice of who they have sex with. Prostitutes have sex with any paying customer and the pay is not guaranteed. Prostitutes can be beaten, robbed and possibly even murdered, aspects porn stars don’t have to worry about. Prostitutes are also forced to perform sexual acts with multiple people several times a day in order to make enough money to survive. The life of a prostitute is not a clean or glamorous lifestyle. If they were attractive enough to become porn stars I’m sure they would rather do that. Prostitutes are at constant risk of contracting a STD everyday on the job. Their partners are not tested, and the locations they hook up are not always the cleanliest. Its way better to be a porn star then a prostitute.

No Bukaki Allowed

            I have to be honest with Dr. Halavais, the frontline special titled, “American Porn,” has probably been the highlight of the class so far. The lectures have been filled with all sorts of historical information about porn that I knew nothing about, but they aren’t quite as entertaining as the girls moaning in the background of the frontline special.
            The frontline special wasn’t just entertaining, it was also educational. I learned about cold and hot cameras as well as what a buy rate is pertaining to porn. The most important thing I was able to take away from the special was that the future of porn is in jeopardy. According to the big wigs of the porn industry President Bush and attorney general Ashcroft are a threat to the future of porn. Their efforts as of recently have been put on hold to do more important things like capturing terrorists.
            Political leaders have their hands full at the moment but will eventually refocus on abolishing porn. The reason they feel the need to do this is because of the level producers and consumers are taking porn to. I’m asking anyone who reads this to not support sick sadistic porn videos. Videos containing rape scenes and beatings should not be made period. I enjoy watching a good girl on girl or straight video every now and then, please don’t take that away from me. Who wants to watch 10 guys blow a load all over one girl? Who wants to watch a girl get beaten and raped? If you like these things you should keep them to yourself so the rest of us don’t have to suffer. Lets get porn videos back to the good old days minus the big bushes.

Deep Thoat Paved The Way

The historical porn event I chose to focus on is the most significant one of all, the first major porn flick “Deep Throat.” This was not only the first real porn movie with acting, bad jokes and sex scenes but also a very inexpensive groundbreaking movie. The movie laid the path for all future porn movies. The movie’s main character was Linda Lovelace who went to see the Dr. because she could not have an orgasm. Dr. Young determined the reason she couldn’t have an orgasm was that her clitoris was located deep down in her throat and the only way to get off was to deep throat her partners.
The porno was filmed for a measly 24,000 which at the time was considered expensive. The movie has been reported to have grossed over $600 million, now that’s a nice profit. The star of the movie who’s real name is Linda Boreman was the first porno superstar known by everyone. After her porn days were numbered in the 70’s, Linda became a feminist and anti-porn supporter. She claimed her husband Chuck Traynor (also the director of Deep Throat) forced her to be in porn movies, sometimes even at gunpoint.
The controversial film was viewed by all sorts of celebrities from Jack Nicholson to Frank Sinatra. When the film was first scheduled for release most of the people who worked on the film were arrested for the creation and transportation of obscene material. In the end the court case was eventually dismissed and the ban on the movie was lifted. Porn films became a silently accepted part of society and have continued to grow and expand ever since.

Most Porn is Really Just Erotica

This blog entry refers to lecture four about the history of porn and what is classified as pornography and what is erotica. According to Dr. Halvais’s lecture porn has been around forever, since the ancient Roman Empire. Back then pornography was limited to drawings, paintings and sculptures. As technology changed however so did pornography. With the development of cameras nude photos were now taken. These nude photographs along with ancient drawings should be considered as erotica not porn for the most part.

Pictures and photos can only be considered porn if penetration is shown. Penthouse magazine for example contains many pictures of people having some form of sex and should be considered pornography. Playboy on the other hand only shows girls by themselves, not participating in any sexual acts with others and should be classified as erotica. Any sexual act would have to be classified as pornography, because if it’s not then what is? Nude photos and pictures can be seen as art though and therefore should not be titled as pornography.

Jonathan Coopersmith stated, “pornography is defined by technology.” I am starting to believe that technology more then human sexuality is the driving force behind the progress of porn. Do to VCR’s, cable TV, the Internet and DVD’s porn has skyrocketed. Any video containing sexual acts should also be considered porn, regardless if it’s vaginal, oral or anal sex. Nude photos by themselves are not porn! They are only erotica.

Re to Rape Me Harder: When No Really Means Yes

This Blog is in response to, “Rape Me Harder: When No Really Means yes.” This was a very well written, thorough blog containing facts and evidence to back up the claims made. Probably more in depth then any blog I will write this semester, however I do disagree with some of the claims made.

The blog focuses on SRS (Sex Role Stereotyping) mainly rape scenes in pornography. A rape scene in a porn video is completely different then a real rape, where someone is completely taken advantage of and violated. Rapes in porn videos are not completely victimless however. According to research done by Suzin Mayerson, “SRS subjects generally reported having lower self-esteem and more tolerance of rape and other violence.” I believe many of the women taking part in these videos do it for the money. While the sex is consensual I don’t believe many of the girls participating really truly enjoy the role playing of being raped. A perfect example of this is www.meatholes.com where the focus of every scene is dominance and borderline rape. I have a friend who enjoys watching these videos and I think he’s sick in the head. In several of the videos the girls who are being beaten and abused break down and begin to cry.

Rape is a terrible thing, which can destroy someone’s life. Some people are able to recover from rape, while others are emotionally or even possibly physically scared for life. Portraying such a horrible act is not something I condone.

Porn Creats Technology

I knew the Internet was an excellent forum for pornographic material prior to enrolling in Com 497. Who didn’t know that? However, I was unaware of how much impact pornography itself has had on the growth of technology. According to Jonathan Coopersmith, “If it were not for the subject matter, pornography would be publicly praised as an industry that has successfully and quickly developed, adopted, and diffused new technologies.” I couldn’t agree with Mr. Coopersmith more. Even though many Americans view and or participate in pornography it is rarely spoken about in the open as an excepted part of society. Pornography has been instrumental in advances dealing with VCR’s, camcorders, computers and the Internet.

The creation of the VCR and camcorder was a vital part of the adult-film industry. Now people could view porn from the privacy of their homes, copy it and pass it on to their friends, or even create their own. The creation of new technology is always accompanied with new consequences. DIY pornography can have its drawbacks if the video tape falls into the wrong hands; just ask Paris Hilton or Pamela Anderson. DIY has been extremely successful, demonstrating that some people prefer the more natural look. Thanks to DIY the quality of camcorders was also accelerated, forcing manufactures to create cameras with greater zoom capabilities, auto focus and other handy gadgets for the heat of the moment.
